Boilers & Heating

How Does it Work?

Homeowners and private tenants in the UK can now apply for a grant to replace their old, inefficient gas boiler with a brand new A-rated boiler under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). ECO is a Government scheme which supports affordable warmth, by providing energy measures which use less energy and reduce your bills.

You could qualify if you live in England, Scotland or Wales, have a low household income and are in receipt of benefits or if you are a pensioner receiving a benefit. Your boiler must also be over 5 years old or have an existing fault which is uneconomical to repair.

The support you get will depend upon how much energy is estimated to be saved in your home by fitting a new boiler. The higher the savings, the higher the funding; you may get a grant to cover 100% of the replacement cost or a significant part-payment.

Why should I replace my boiler?

Boilers account for about 55 per cent of what you spend in a year on energy bills, so an efficient boiler makes a big difference. Replacing an old gas boiler with no controls, with an A-rated high efficiency condensing boiler and full set of heating controls will significantly cut your home’s carbon dioxide emissions, and could save you as much as £340 a year.

A combi boiler provides heating and hot water directly from the boiler. It is an ingenious space-saving idea, and an increasingly popular choice in UK homes. In fact, combi’s now account for well over half of all the new domestic boilers installed in Britain every year.
